about

hey, i'm fractyl and i like to make stuff.

i live in new zealand and i have been programming (using that term quite loosely) since i was 7 years old.
i make games in JavaScript, Idle Game Maker and whatever else i feel like making games in.

this website is a personal project of mine that i've been developing since August of 2023.
it was originally just to improve my HTML and CSS skills, but then i accidentally learned some JavaScript. nowadays it's a place for me to make cool designs and share all the stuff i make.
i've been slowly adding things and updating things for a while.

this site used to look a lot different. if you want to know how this site used to look, check out projects.html, a page that was basically what the stuff.html page is now, except i stopped updating it. it uses the old style.css file, which i used until September 2023.
i redesigned the homepage to a design that was very similar to the current one, but there were several lists of links to all the stuff i made, instead of just a link to the main pages like now. after the stuff page was mostly complete the links were removed from the home page.

my favourite things

my favourite game is Minecraft. i also like Trombone Champ, Terraria, Portal, Raft, Among Us, and the best game of all time.

my favourite movie is probably Interstellar. when i was younger i liked The Lego Movie and Tomorrowland.

my favourite musician is Neil Cicierega/Lemon Demon. about a third of my spotify playlist is just his music. idk why

a short history of my stuff

2016

i took my first programming class in primary school. we used an app for the iPad called Hopscotch to make games. i was probably the best in class at it. i also spent a lot of time in primary school drawing.

2019

by 2019 i had been using Hopscotch for a while. i had made a couple pretty good games. in 2019 i was told about Scratch and HTML. i started doing simple HTML and CSS for a school project. i did a bit of scratch but not much.

2020

in 2020 lockdown hit, and instead of using the immense amount of free time i had to do some more programming, i just played games all the time. to this day i regret not using my time wisely. i also found out about Cookie Clicker.

2021

i posted my first ever gaming video on YouTube. i got a book about Scratch and Python programming. i did a bit of Python, but this mostly led me to getting back into Scratch programming. through Cookie Clicker, i found Idle Game Maker, which I used to make Cake Clicker.

2022

i kept doing Scratch stuff, albeit much less. i made my current YouTube channel and posted some videos. i found a website through a teacher that let me host a website with Google Drive, which i used for another school project.

2023

for me, 2023 is the year that i stopped being cringe. after posting omg are you a drawer? i stopped posting on YouTube. i found out about github and created another rudimentary HTML site, about a week before finding out about neocities and creating a slightly better rudimentary site. i redesigned my whole website about a month later while on a trip, and it's been slowly modified since.

2024

i made a bunch of stuff both on this site and elsewhere. a longer list can be found in this weblog post. around the end of the year i posted another video on YouTube after a 1.5 year hiatus.

2025

this year is still in progress but i'm personally very happy with my improvement on my YouTube channel specifically. as of writing this i've posted 5 videos in the last 4 months and i intend on posting more.
